Chancellor Angela Merkel announced Wednesday that Germany will extend and tighten its partial closure to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, and urged its citizens to limit contact even more until Jan. 31.
The majority of non-food stores, bars, restaurants, cultural centers, entertainment venues and schools will remain closed.
"We have to limit a greater form of social contact in order to combat [the pandemic]," Merkel said in a press conference.
